Species: Exo

History: Cayde-6 is an Exo; a warmachine created for a battle long forgotten. The 6 refers to the number of times his mind has been wiped. Risidual memories remain, but for the most part he has little memory of his previous iterations. What does remain are vivid 'amplified' memories, with no thought to chronology or reason. Unlike some Exos who do their best to forget and ignore these random memories, Cayde documented his as best as he was able.

Me? I learned long ago you gotta play the hand you're dealt.

In the not to distant future from our current point in time, our Solar system was visited by a white, moon-like sphere, touching on various planets and terraforming them before arriving at Mars and within contact distance. A three-man team was dispatched to meet with the object - dubbed the 'Traveler' - and through that, humanity was bestowed with great gifts of technology and intelligence, terraformed planets to colonize, and tripled life spans.

A Golden Age followed, with such wonders as Freehold city on Mars, or the Ishtar Collective academy on Venus. Mankind flourished. But, such good things are never meant to last, and the Traveler's enemies from the deepest regions of space started to converge on the Sol system. The Darkness arrived, and humanity broke under the pressure in an event known as the Collapse. The Traveler gave its all to defend mankind, coming to a final rest on Planet Earth. In its shadow, the Last Free City was built, behind a massive wall to keep out the minions of the Darkness. Earth crawls with Fallen and Hive, Venus ovverun by Vex, Freehold destroyed by Cabal.

In its dying breath, the Traveler created the Ghosts; tiny slivers of its Light that would seek out those capable of wielding the Light as a weapon, and thus the Guardians were born. The Vanguard arose to help aspiring Guardians realize their full potential in an attempt to push back the Darkness and reclaim their glory. Or, at the very least; stave off extinction.

Cayde is a Hunter, and spent much of his time taking jobs and scouring enemy territory. He worked for Clovis Bray, OffWorld Transit, and for a spell he was hired muscle at the Ishtar Collective, where he fell for one of the scientists; Dr. Maya Sundaresh (it was unrequited). He spent a good chunk of time in the wilderness and on various battlefields. He was part of the Guaridan push to retake the moon. Later, During an operation with his buddy Andal Brask, Cayde drew the short stick and had to remain at base camp. Andal went out on the mission and was killed by Taniks the Scarred, a Fallen Mercenary. In his honor, Cayde took the Vanguard Dare and lost, giving him his current post of Hunter Vanguard (while the Titan and Warlock Vanguards are appointed and maintained by respected individuals, it has been extremely difficulty finding any Hunter willing to commit to the post, and so the 'Vanguard Dare' was instituted). He still wears Andal's cloak.

As a Vanguard, Cayde helps direct Guardians and assign them to missions and strikes, feeding them intel and receiving data. He's been around for the discovery of the Vex, the taking of the Black Garden, retaking the Moon from the Hive, the betrayal of the House of Wolves against the Awoken (where he finally got to see Taniks taken down), and the emergence of the Hive god Oryx and his army of Taken.

Personality: Cayde is a joker, first and foremost. Part coping mechanism, part natural charm, he's always got a witty comeback or snappy remark to fit any situation. A lot of his humor plays towards strengthening his ego and putting other people off, drawing focus to his charm and abilities. He can be cocky and flippant, anything to deflect, distract, or otherwise diffuse a situation he just doesn't want to deal with.

"Cayde! Our discussion is not yet concluded!"
"Yeah I know ... that's why I'm leaving."

He's a thrill seeker. Hunter class, he's used to being right in the thick of things and scouting enemy territories first hand. Having taken up the Vanguard Dare after the death of his friend Andal Brask, he's sequestered in the Tower helping to direct other Guardians and oversee fresh Hunters. He constantly comments on being stuck up there, asking Guardians to 'take me with you' and otherwise openly dissenting his position.

"Heh, I gotta get out of this Tower and back out there."

He is very skilled at what he does, and even if he doesn't like being the Hunter Vanguard, he still does his job to the best of his abilities. He does have a tendency to take more unorthodox approaches, however, such as running an unsanctioned op involving Eris Morn's ship, old stealth drives, and a willing and daring Guardian. Even though the mission was a success, he caught the full brunt of Zavala's ire and, as he put it to the Guardian later, 'my wings are clipped'. It's as much trying to creatively solve a stubborn problem as it is trying to recapture some of the zest from his past.

Before the Vanguard, he spent much of his time scouring the Cosmodrome and other locations around the Sol system. He left caches of weapons, glimmer, and other useful sundries. Sadly not all of these have survived.

He's a gambling man. Before, forever, and always. He wears a card suit motif on his Hunter's garb, and his caches were organized by a personal system utilizing the four suits to indicate make and type. He constantly bets for and against Guardians, and makes bets with the other Vanguards (At least, with Ikora. Whether she actually takes him up on it is unknown).

"I'm going to tell everyone you took out an admiral and seized the Spire, and they won't believe me, and then I will win so very many bets. Speaking of, I have a thousand Glimmer down on your death in the Black Garden. Nothing personal!"

Abilities:
As an Exo: He's a bit harder to kill than most humans. While the finer details of Exo anatomy and workings has been long lost following the Collapse - they are ciphers even to themselves - he is made of strong metal. His punches probably hurt more, too.

As a Hunter: He's stealthy, quick thinking, quick on his feet, and agile.
Hunter Subclass/Bladedancer: Can summon Arc (electrical) energy and imbue it to his dagger. Includes thrown grenades, shove, and chained lightning attack
Hunter Subclass/Gunslinger: Can summon Sol (fire) energy and imbue it to his handcannon (superpistol). Includes thrown grenades, shove, and overpowered handcanon shots for a brief period of time.

As Vanguard: Oversees strategy and execution of operations, good at devising bad ideas that somehow work out.

As Cayde: +18 CHA

Augment Skillset: Civilian: Teacher
Sample:

[Cayde opens a video feed, because who wouldn't want to see this face? As he speaks, the metal plates that make up his face shift in a subtle manner to better portray his emotions as he speaks. He's definitely one of the more expressive Exos.]

Greetings, fine fair people of the fleet. This is Cayde-6 coming at ya' with the evening's news and gossip; my ship continues to be the best and all others should bow before it and send gifts.

In other news, I'll be hosting a poker game on the Iskulut later this evening. Serious contenders only.
